Scenario

You have one league with 22 teams and want to split them into two divisions of 11 teams.

The schedule should be:

  • Each team plays the other teams in its own division twice — once home and once away.
  • Then each team plays the teams from the other division once.

This can be done by creating three divisions and generating the schedule in two parts.

Part 1 — Create the two main divisions

  1. Go to Menu > Manage > Divisions > Divisions.
  2. Create your two divisions, for example Division A and Division B.
  3. Go to Menu > Manage > Players/Teams > Teams.
  4. Place 11 teams in Division A and the other 11 teams in Division B.

Part 2 — Create a Round-Robin for each division

  1. Go to Menu > Manage > Brackets/Round-Robins > Round-Robins.
  2. Create one Round-Robin for Division A.
  3. Create one Round-Robin for Division B.
  4. Make sure both Round-Robins use the correct scoresheet, handicap and league settings.

Part 3 — Generate the home-and-away portion

Now generate the schedule for Division A and Division B using only the dates you want reserved for the first part of the season.

  1. Go to Menu > Manage > Schedules/Charts > Surfaces Scheduler or Calendar.
  2. Click Generate Schedules.
  3. Add a Schedule Group.
  4. Under Options > Round-Robin, include the Round-Robins for Division A and Division B.
  5. Under Options > Recurring Dates, add only the dates for this first portion of the schedule.
  6. Generate enough dates for the teams in each division to play one another twice.
  7. Review the attempt and click Accept Attempt when you are satisfied with the schedule.

Example: With 11 teams in a division, each team has 10 opponents. Playing each opponent twice gives each team 20 matches. Because there is an odd number of teams, there will also be a Bye during each round-robin rotation.

Part 4 — Create a third division with all 22 teams

Next, create a third division that contains all 22 teams. This division will be used to generate the second part of the schedule.

  1. Go to Menu > Manage > Divisions > Divisions.
  2. Create a new division, for example All Teams or Cross-Division.
  3. Go to Menu > Manage > Players/Teams > Teams.
  4. Choose All Divisions.
  5. Select the teams and click Add to Division.
  6. Add all 22 teams to the new All Teams division.

Important: You are adding the existing teams to another division. You do not need to create duplicate teams, and the teams can remain in Division A or Division B as well.

Part 5 — Create the All Teams Round-Robin

  1. Go back to Menu > Manage > Brackets/Round-Robins > Round-Robins.
  2. Create a new Round-Robin for the All Teams division.
  3. Use the same scoresheet and applicable league settings as the other two divisions.

Part 6 — Generate the second portion of the schedule

  1. Go back to Generate Schedules.
  2. Create a separate Schedule Group for the second portion, or use a group where you can control the dates independently.
  3. Include only the All Teams Round-Robin.
  4. Under Recurring Dates, add only the dates you want used for this second part of the season.
  5. Generate the schedule for those dates.
  6. Review the attempt before accepting it.
  7. When everything looks correct, click Accept Attempt.

This lets you build the season in two sections: first the home-and-away games inside Division A and Division B, then the games using the division containing all 22 teams.
